I just had an interview in a realtor agency in Viman Nagar today and it was awful. for context I am non-indian, female, age 28, now living in Pune and trying to get employment. I have 5 years experience in real estate in my home country and yes, the property laws here will be different but the skills are transferable and I have a qualification for same. In india real estate is an entry level job – the office had so many really young people from 22-30 mostly it cannot be the case that they all have previous experience in property.
He kept interrupting me, not allowing me to speak, tested my hindi and basically laughed, said my skills were not transferable in indian market and basically was confused why I was there and that ‘you would think I would have done research on the indian property market before coming’ . They literally invited me for this interview and it was the SECOND round. My CV clearly said I was learning hindi, and that my real estate experience is in my home country only. I knew about the company, knew RERA and could name developers in my area, but because I didnt name exactly 5 and only 3 I was met with a rude comment about not doing any research.
I am completely put off now wanting to work here… I am feeling like I will never fit in!
TL;DR: just wanted to rant about my interview experience and know if this is normal within indian companies?
